Matext vs Poliigon
Poliigon is a Blender-first shop for textures, models, and HDRIs. Matext is only the material — photographed, packed, generated, or built to brief.
The short version
Poliigon is the library many Blender artists already subscribe to: PBR textures plus models and HDRIs, with a plugin browser. Matext does not sell models or HDRIs. We make the surface — Organic photos, Logic map sets, Torch variations, Studio on brief.
If you want one shop for a chair, an HDRI, and a floor, Poliigon is built for that. If you want the floor to start as a photograph you can stand behind, that is Matext.
Side by side
| Aspect | Matext | Poliigon |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A materials factory: photographed Organic surfaces, Logic PBR sets, Torch generation, and Studio custom work — in one Hub. | A subscription asset shop: thousands of textures, 3D models, and HDRIs, with a strong Blender plugin. |
| Best when | The job is the material — portable PBR, owned photography, generation, or a custom brief. | You want textures, props, and HDRIs from one Blender-centric store. |
| Catalog shape | Materials only. Organic 1,500+ raw photos; Logic complete PBR packs. We do not claim a bigger SKU list. | Broader SKU mix (textures + models + HDRIs). Size is their marketing, not ours to invent. |
| Maps & resolution | Logic ships complete PBR sets at 2K, 4K, and 8K. Organic is raw photographic material (1,500+ published). | PBR texture packs at typical 2K–8K. Quality is consistent shop-grade. |
| AI / custom | Studio takes a production brief. Atlas covers capture-oriented workflows. Torch varies owned captures. | A catalog you browse. Not a custom photography studio. |
| Hosts | Web Hub, desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux), and plugins (Blender is the production connector; others are beta). | Best known for the Blender addon; also used in other DCCs. |
When to pick Matext
You care that Organic is photographed. You need Logic as a complete set. You want Torch or Studio. You do not need them to also sell you the sofa and the HDRI.
When Poliigon is the better fit
You want one Blender plugin that drops in textures, models, and HDRIs and you are happy buying catalog, not commissioning capture.
FAQ
Is Matext trying to be a bigger Poliigon?
No. We are narrower: materials, not a general 3D store.
Can I use both?
Yes. Matext maps are standard PBR. Poliigon’s plugin will not be offended.
Do you sell HDRIs or models?
No.
