Matext vs Textures.com
Textures.com (CGTextures) is a huge generalist photo-texture archive on a credits model. Matext is a smaller, production PBR factory — not a search engine for every surface on earth.
The short version
Textures.com is the old CGTextures reflex: an enormous photo archive, mixed subjects, credits to download. It is not trying to be a PBR factory with a Hub and a Studio.
If you need “some bark, some rust, some fabric photo” and you already have credits, stay there. If you need a complete Logic set, Organic as a photographed library, Torch, or a brief, that is Matext.
Side by side
| Aspect | Matext | Textures.com |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A materials factory: photographed Organic surfaces, Logic PBR sets, Torch generation, and Studio custom work — in one Hub. | A long-running generalist texture archive (photos, decals, mixed maps) sold on daily credits plus paid tiers. |
| Best when | You want production PBR, Hub, generation, or custom work. | You need a specific reference photo or an odd surface from a very large pile. |
| Catalog shape | Curated Organic + Logic. We do not pretend to match Textures.com breadth. | Very wide. Not every item is a complete modern PBR set. |
| Maps | Logic ships complete PBR sets at 2K, 4K, and 8K. Organic is raw photographic material (1,500+ published). | Often a photo plus derived maps. Completeness varies by item. |
| AI / custom | Studio takes a production brief. Atlas covers capture-oriented workflows. Torch varies owned captures. | An archive you search. Not a studio. |
| How you pay | Matext plan / credits — see /pricing. | Daily free credits and paid top-ups. A different meter. |
When to pick Matext
You want a complete PBR workflow in Hub, not another credits search. Organic, Logic, Torch, Studio.
When Textures.com is the better fit
You need a rare photo reference or a one-off surface from a giant archive and a complete factory is overkill.
